Drugstore Products Worth Trying

If you've been on this blog before, you've probably already seen some of the below products floating around in several posts. That's because I stick to the products I love and only recommend products that I actually use and enjoy. Below are all prodcuts that can be found at the drugstore that I definitely feel are worth a try. So the next time you're at the drugstore and are thinking "hey, I need a new concealer" maybe you'll think of this post and fall in love with a new product like I have. All of the items are linked below :)

Drugstore Products Worth Trying

1. Maybelline Eye Studio Master Precise Liquid Eyeliner - One of my favorite eyeliners to use on my top lash line. Allows for an easy cat eye wing.

2. Essie Nail Polish - Essie is by far my favorite nail polish brand. The formula never fails, and the color selection is amazing!

3. Revlon ColorStay Foundation - This is one of my go-to drugstore foundations whenever I'm not trying out anything new. It stays put all day and leaves a matte finish.

4. Loreal Paris Telescopic Mascara - If you've see this blog before, you've most likely have seen this mascara already. I love the tiny bristle because it helps separate my lashes before applying whatever volumizing mascara that I am using next.

5. Milani Glow Baked Bronzer - You've probably also have already seen me mention this bronzer a time or two. I absolutely love it! Leaves the perfect bronzy sheen to my face, especially looks great in the summer.

6. NYX Powder Blush - These are my go-to drugstore blushes. They are pigmented and have a lot of great color dupes to more high-end blushes.

7. Eos Smooth Sphere Lip Balm - This is my everyday lip balm. It's moisturizing, lasts longer than some other lip balms, and comes in great flavors.

8. NYX Butter Gloss - This is one of my favorite overall drugstore lip products. Its got this buttery formula that isn't sticky on your lips, and also has great color payoff.

9. NYX HD Photo Concealer - I recently started using this again and instantly remembered why I love it so much. It is great for my under-eye area because it doesn't crease, and also gives that brightening effect that I love. Highly recommend!

10. Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder - I haven't been able to find that many drugstore powders that I actually like, but this one I like! I press it into the areas of my face (after already applying foundation) that I don't want to shine, typically the center of my forehead, and chin.

Any others worth trying? Let me know!

P.S. if you decide to get the Eos lip balm, just keep it away from your cute dog!

Friday Five: Last Minute Ways to Look Patriotic

Happy 4th Everyone! No matter where you go today, almost everyone will be sporting some sort of red, white, or blue. If you haven't had time to think about it, it's easy to get frustrated when trying to incorporate all three colors - the red shirt you thought you had seems to have magically disappeared from your closet and you don't own anything with an American Flag on it. Well here are some last minute ways you may be able to find helpful to complete your red, white, and blue!

Last Minute Ways to be Patriotic

1. Red Lips - If you cannot find anything red to wear, why not try it out on your lips? A quick run to the drugstore is all you need. If you're not used to the whole red lip look, I recommend going for more of tinted lip balm or butter.

2. Nail Polish - This is one of the most common ways to look a little more patriotic. Grab any red, white, and/or blue nail polish, allow yourself a little time to dry and you're good to go!

3. Blue Eyeliner - I know I have a couple of these laying around in my makeup drawer, so if you do too, add a little blue eyeliner to your water line instead of the usual black.

4. Red Bandana - Here's an easy way to incorporate some red into your look. Use a red bandana as a headband. It not only gets you your instant red, but it gets your hair out of your face!

5. Blue Denim - I'm going to safely assume that everyone owns at least some sort of blue denim. It's probably one of the easiest ways to incorporate blue into your outfit. Think about it, I think blue denim has always been the new black.

Have an amazing, fun, and safe 4th of July Weekend!

Summer Style: Casually Covered

Like I mentioned in my previous post, my summer style tends to be on the causal side. Since I spend a lot of my time at the beach during the summer, my nights out are usually for a casual dinner, movie, ice cream, or just literally hanging out. For nights like these my style is pretty uniform with a graphic tee or tank, denim shorts, and something to throw over my shoulders for when the temperature drops or I'm in air conditioned places (some restaurants are so cold!). Instead of having a little jacket, I love to use button down shirts and just keep them unbuttoned. I roll up the sleeves a little, grab a pair of sandals and then I'm ready to go. I threw in some lip products for fun ;) Check below for three outfits that I basically own and will totally wear this time of year.

Outfit 1:

Outfit 2:

Lipstick (Pink Plaid) / Sandals / Graphic Tee / Shorts / Plaid Shirt

Outfit 3:

Chambray Shirt / Shorts / Top / Sandals / Lip Balm Stain (Cherish)

Hope you've enjoyed! :)

Friday Five: Drugstore Lip Products Worth Trying

Happy Friday the 13th! Since I am not all that superstitious I will be walking under ladders, petting black cats, and breaking mirrors all day. ;) No, but really I want to just share with you some of my favorite lip products that can all be found at the drugstore. I know a lot of times I use MAC lipsticks and glosses, but there are some really great drugstore products that I use just as often. All of the below products are worth a try, especially because they are so inexpensive. For some additional details, keep on reading!

Friday Five: Drugstore Lip Products

1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5

1. NYX Butter Gloss - This is literally an amazing product from the drugstore. These lip butters are only $5, have great color payoff, are incredibly smooth, and smell great too. If you are looking for something in-between a lipstick and a gloss, these are perfect for you. My favorite shade is in 'Merengue', but I also own the shades 'Eclair', 'Tiramisu', and 'Apple Strudel' - I'd recommend any of them!

2. Maybelline ColorSensational Color Elixir Lip Color - If you are looking for something a little more glossy, I'd recommend giving these a try. They don't give off as much color as the lip butters, but sometimes that's the look I am going for. Although these come in a lot of colors, I prefer the shades 'Nude Illusion' and 'Petal Plush' for a nice neutral sheen.

3. Revlon Super Lustrous Matte Lipstick - This is by far my favorite drugstore lipstick. I own the color 'Pink Pout' and I wear it all the time. It is not drying for a matte lipstick and is surprisingly smooth and creamy. The particular shade I own is beautiful and is the perfect pink! Highly recommend this lipstick.

4. eos Lip Balm - I have tried pretty much every flavor (is that what you call it?) of this adorable little Easter egg of a lip balm and I have to say that Pomegranate Raspberry is by far my favorite. It is also my favorite lip balm in general because it is long lasting and very smooth. It is 95% organic and 100% natural. Definitely worth a try!

5. Revlon Color Burst Lip Butter - I can remember back to a year or two ago when these came out and everyone was obsessed with them. For good reason, though! If you are thinking of experimenting with lipstick, but can't part with your lip balm yet, these are perfect. If a lipstick and a lip balm had a baby, these lip butters would be that baby. I love the shades 'Creme Brulee' and 'Creamsicle'.

Have a great weekend!

Makeup Walk-Through

This guide may be helpful for two reasons: 1. You would like to know the order in which you should be applying your face makeup, or if you already pretty much know, 2. You can see some great products that I like use for each step (I like options!). Regardless, if this post is able to help at least one person, I will feel like it is worth it. Enjoy!

Makeup Talk-Through

1. Foundation: The first thing I do is apply my foundation. I like to pump the product onto the back of my hand so I know the exact amount I am working with. From here, I like to spot the product all over my face and then go in with a brush and blend it out. A tip for picking your foundation shade - if the product makes you look orange or pink, it's too dark for your skin-tone.

2. Concealer: After I apply my foundation, I like to take my concealer and apply to my under-eyes by sweeping the wand across that area. Then I take my brush and pat the product in an upwards motion. You typically look for a concealer that is two shades lighter than your natural skin-tone so you can really brighten up that area. I also use concealer on any blemishes or redness I may have.

3. Setting Powder: To ensure your makeup lasts you want to use a setting powder. I like to dust a lighter, translucent powder under my eyes and on my T-zone (forehead, down the nose, and chin). Then I like to go in with my MAC Mineralized Skin Finish Natural and apply that over my foundation.

4. Bronzer: Bronzer is so important to me because it really helps warm up my face. I like to apply bronzer right along the cheekbone, hairline, and jawline.

5. Blush: Lastly, I apply my blush to the apples of my cheeks. If you make a slight closed mouth smile (yes, I want you to smile at yourselves in the mirror), you will see where you should directly apply the product.

Extra Steps:

-Primer: To really ensure that your makeup will last, you can apply a primer before your foundation. Primer forms a nice base layer on your skin so your makeup sticks to that instead of seeping into your pores. Think of it like painting a wall. Typically, you use a primer first.

-Highlight: I love to highlight my face. I feel like it gives the finish of my skin a nice healthy glow. I love to apply my highlight to the tops of my cheekbones, and down the center of my nose.

-Setting Spray: I have been using my MAC fix + spray everyday after finishing my makeup. Just a few sprays about a foot away from your face and it just gives a really refreshing finish. I especially like to use this if I feel my face looks too powdery. Depending on your skin needs, you can pick a different setting spray. If you have oily skin, you would look for a matte finish spray. Think of a setting spray as hairspray for your face.

Spring Beauty

Spring Beauty

I'll admit it - I am a total makeup fanatic. I am always trying new products and my makeup routine is constantly changing. Over the past year, I have been able to pick out a few staple items that I literally use every single day, including my MAC paint pot in soft ochre, my L'Oreal telescopic mascara (lengthens and separates like crazy), and my MAC lipstick in the color hue. My more recent obsessions are with the Lorac Pro palette (there is so so much you can do with this wonderful palette), and the Anastasia dipbrow pomade - this is an eyebrow game changer.  Overall, if you try any of these products, you're bound to love them!
